Look, Jane. See Spot.
See Spot's dull coat.
Pet Spot.
Feel Spot's oily skin.
Smell your hand now, Jane.
Smell Spot on your hand.

Oh, Dick!
My hand does not smell good.
And it feels dirty, too. Yuck!
Oh, Dick! I must wash my hand.
Why does Spot smell like this, Dick?
Why does Spot feel like this?
And why does Spot look so dull?

I think Dr. Falconer must know. Let's ask him.

Hi, Dick and Jane. So, this is your friend Spot who I've heard so much about. Having some doggie odor and oily, dull coat problems, is he? Looks like he's shedding quite a bit, too. Before I became a holistic, homeopathic veterinarian, I had dogs at home like this. I thought it was normal to have to wash my hands after playing with them. I thought regular bathing was just something all dogs needed in order to be members of the family. Now I know these things are common but not normal.

You see, the skin is a dog's largest eliminative organ, far larger than the kidneys or the liver. When a dog's skin looks and smells this bad, it means the body of this dog is dealing with a heavy load of toxins. Where is your dog getting toxins from? Most commonly, in pet foods! We unknowingly trust these pet foods to be healthy, but in fact, most of them are not.

But Dr. Falconer, we KNOW we feed Spot healthy dog food. Our vet recommended it.

I wish that were the case, Dick. Unfortunately, even the foods recommended by most veterinarians are affected with these same toxic problems. Most of them say so on their labels.

Example of "premium" dog food which has animal by-productsSee the word "by-product" there in the first few ingredients listed? This means those animals and parts of animals unfit for you and I to eat--unfit for human consumption. That can include animals in the 4-D category.

What's the 4-D category you ask? Animals that are Dead, Diseased, Dying, or Disabled when they arrive at the slaughter house. It can also include meat that has spoiled. Or even pets and horses who have been put to sleep!

Wow, Dr. Falconer, that's awful!!!
And really gross!
Does the government know about this?

Yes, Jane, although, because it's not food for humans to eat, these ingredients are allowed in pet food. And there's more. See further down the label where it says "BHA," "BHT," or "ethoxyquin?" These are preservatives that are also toxic. Especially the last one, which is classed as a pesticide and not allowed in human food for this very reason. The government won't allow you to eat it because it's poison, yet they do allow it in your dog's food.

Eeewwwww!

We don't want Spot eating this toxic food!
It's making him sick!
But he plays OK. Well, not like he used to, I guess.
He mostly sleeps a lot now, and he's only four years old.

I don't blame you, Dick and Jane. I see dogs in practice every day like Spot. They aren't sick enough (yet!) to stop eating. They don't show obvious symptoms of illness like a fever or diarrhea. Yet, like Spot, they've slowed down and don't feel energetic. And they don't smell great when you pet them. You'll often see mucus in the corners of their eyes. Their breath is less than pleasant. This is almost always due to poor quality dog food! Even those dog food brands that are called "premium dog food" or sold by veterinarians labeled "Veterinarian Recommended"!!!

Yet, when my patients are switched over to a healthy, naturally preserved, oven-baked pet food which uses human quality ingredients, I have seen them overcome these problems--often within only a few weeks! It's pretty remarkable to see dogs brighten up, smell good, feel softer and silkier, and start acting younger when all you've done is feed them a healthier diet of all natural (and naturally preserved) premium pet food.

We want to do something for Spot's health right away, Doctor.

He shouldn't have to eat food that we wouldn't feel good about eating.

We sure don't want to continue to slowly poison him with toxic food.

What do you recommend, Dr. Falconer?

Look, Dick. Look, Jane. I'll make it simple.

Here is my primer on the best food you can feed Spot. The best dog food for Spot should be:

  1. Made with human-quality ingredients. That means no by-products or toxic preservatives. Also, no corn, cottonseed, corn cobs, citrus pulp, soy beans, breakfast food byproducts, fillers, or foreign materials such as noxious weeds, hulls or chaff or anything else that would be toxic and hard for Spot to digest.

  2. Baked in an oven so the food naturally tastes good. Most other dog foods are "extruded" under high pressures and extreme temperatures. Then they are coated with grease to try to make them taste better to your dog.

Ever walk behind a restaurant, Jane? See the huge messy containers of grease there? Ever wonder where that ends up?

EEEWWWWWWW! (Clunk.)

Sorry, Jane. Dick, help Jane up. Get Jane a glass of water. OK, let's go on.

  1. Fresh Fresh Fresh! The food should come quickly to you after it's made. The food I recommend comes directly from the company, shipped fresh to your door. That means it's not spoiling on a shelf for weeks or months before Spot gets it.

  2. Great Tasting! Spot will love this food, like he's being given a treat. Try the Taste Test. Put my recommended food side by side with the food he's been eating. Stand back and watch, Dick and Jane. SPOT WILL TALK TO YOU!

  3. Guaranteed! If you are unhappy in any way, you get your money back. That way you can't go wrong.

Gee, Dr. Falconer, can we afford such a good food?

I'm glad you asked that, Dick.

You see, the food I recommend is called Flint River Ranch Super Premium. Let's take a look at why it's the best deal available as well as the best pet food available:

  • Flint River Ranch dog food is priced about the same as other so-called premium dog foods, but the price includes delivery--a real plus when you think of the time saved shopping. And the work of lugging bags of food home.

  • Flint River Ranch is a company you can trust to use only human-grade ingredients free of often toxic byproducts, preservatives and pesticides. (Did you know, Dick and Jane, with less costly dog foods from your local store, ethoxyquin may be there even if it's not on the label? It's disallowed in human food, but there have been foods tested and found to have this pesticide/preservative even when it wasn't on their label.) Click here to read the ingredient list for Flint River Ranch dog food.

  • The money you spend on a healthy dog food such as Flint River Ranch can be looked at as "health insurance" for your dog. Any doctor will tell you it costs far less to prevent illness than to treat it. With Flint River Ranch, you are getting such excellent quality that you will be preventing illness, and making a longer life for Spot.

  • Also, with Flint River Ranch you can often feed up to 25% less of this food than what you are presently feeding. This is because Flint River Ranch is just good food. There's no junk taking up space. This can actually make Flint River Ranch Premium Pet Food less expensive than the dog food you can buy locally.

So our all natural diet for dogs is really an excellent bargain when you add it all up! And remember, since it's recommended by me,  this health food for dogs is thus "Veterinarian Recommended!"

I'm ready, Dr. Falconer, but Mother and Father always say we should be cautious before making a decision. Can you tell us a story so we can be really sure?

Oh I have many stories, Dick and Jane. Here's one that might help you to decide what's right for you to feed Spot. Sit back and listen...

I once had a very feeble older dog brought to me. Rosie was a Bassett hound who had tired eyes with gummy discharges in the corners. Her achy joints kept her from moving much. Her coat looked like it was thread bare. Missing patches of hair were scattered over her trunk. The hair that was there was smelly and coarse to the touch. Her teeth were dirty with tartar and her breath smelled badly.

(Are you OK, Jane? You look a bit pale. Don't worry, there will be a happy ending. Dick, more water for Jane.)

There was a buildup of dark smelly wax in both ears. Her caretaker Lisa had brought her to me in the hopes that we could get her healthier in her last years. This was before I had much training in natural medicine, but I had a good understanding of nutrition from a lot of self study. I knew that this was the basis of good health.

Lisa showed me the food label of what Rosie was being fed. Sure enough, it was a well-known brand. And it was one that her vet had recommended. There in plain print were "poultry byproducts" and "ethoxyquin!"

I suggested we start Rosie's treatment with a nutritional change first. I didn't want any treatment to cause an upset in this poor old animal. It looked as though she had some pretty deep chronic disease at this point. So Lisa ordered some Flint River Ranch Super Premium pet food.

We planned to begin some treatments after she had fed Rosie the new diet for a few weeks. Well, as things sometimes happen, a few weeks turned into a few months. Lisa got a new job and had lots to take care of on the family front. When she finally called for a follow-up appointment, she said "I'm sorry I'm calling so late, but I really want you to see Rosie as soon as you can."

I scheduled her in for the next day, and to my surprise, a much younger looking dog bounced into my office, tail wagging. "Rosie? Is that you, girl?" I said, and got down on the floor to greet her. She almost leapt up to meet me half way, with a slobbery kiss, and an excited bark. "Wow, Lisa, she looks great! Her coat feels so soft and she smells great."

"Have you bathed her recently?" I asked.

"Not for several weeks, Doctor," her beaming owner proudly answered. And indeed, she felt like she'd been bathed recently, smelled fresh, had a real shine to her coat, and her breath and teeth were both improved. While she still had some stiffness, it was obviously not nearly the bother that it was when I first saw her. And her ears were almost free of wax.

"What have you done to the old girl, Lisa?"

"Only changed her diet to that premium health food for dogs  you recommended. I've been too busy to do anything else.  But look at her! She's so much better than when I brought her to you the first time. Can the natural diet for dogs really be responsible for all this? She's acting like she did five years ago!"

Indeed, the nutritional status of the patient can have this profound an effect. In Rosie's case, it had been the only thing we could point to that had changed.

I see similar changes in dogs like Rosie on a regular basis in my practice. It's always a great feeling to know that we are not only improving on these animals' current health, but adding years to their lives through feeding them a healthy, natural and nutritious diet.

We don't want to feed another meal of this toxic food, Dr. Falconer. We want our Spot to get the benefits of a healthy diet right away.
